Giacomo Fenocchio Roero Arneis
Arneis from Piedmont
Vintage: 2021
Volume:750ml
Arneis is a white wine grape variety native to Piedmont, Italy.
It has a long history and, according to one theory, was already under cultivation in the 15th century. It is characterised by aromas of pear and white flowers, as well as savoury notes such as almond and hazelnut, which are rarely found in other varieties. It is sometimes said to resemble Chardonnay, as it is a variety that often reflects the intentions of the winemaker. It has a tendency to ripen easily due to its low acidity, and its delicacy makes it susceptible to diseases such as powdery mildew, making it a very difficult grape variety to grow. The name Arneis, meaning 'naughty or navel-gazing', is said to derive from this difficulty.
With dense pear and peach yellow fruit flavours on the nose, as well as tropical fruit nuances. The pleasant acidity and minerality last for a long time.
