Les Mémoires is one of Domaine des Roches Neuves’ most treasured single-vineyard cuvées. It is made from Cabernet Franc vines planted in 1904 in a tiny 0.8-hectare enclosed vineyard overlooking the Loire River. The ancient vines grow on a distinctive terroir of flint, clay and Upper Turonian limestone.
The grapes are carefully harvested by hand in small crates and sorted before fermentation. Fermentation takes place in open concrete tanks, with a maceration period of around 10–18 days. The wine is then matured in large 25hl foudres and 600-litre wooden barrels.
The 2023 Les Mémoires is remarkably precise and concentrated, yet delicate and light on its feet. Aromas of wild strawberry, red berry liqueur and cassis are complemented by subtle notes of mint, star anise and graphite. On the palate, it is deep and sensual, with beautifully fine, powdery tannins and a vibrant mineral freshness.
Powerful without heaviness, this is a complex and quietly expressive Cabernet Franc. Its long, pure finish reflects both the remarkable age of the vines and the cool, elegant character for which Domaine des Roches Neuves is renowned.
